Frequently asked questions

Are campfires allowed?

Outside fire, fireworks, candles, and any open flame are prohibited on the property. Fire danger is ALWAYS a concern. Wildfires devastate our State each year and we would like your help to preserve the San Juans and keep them free of human-caused wildfires. Please only use the gas grill on the deck, NO charcoal, and please exercise caution while operating the wood stove.

Is smoking allowed?

No smoking of any kind is allowed on the property. This includes vaping and smoking of any kind.

Can I bring my dog?

Unfortunately, we do NOT allow pets at either of the cabins. This is to ensure an enjoyable experience for every group that comes. We do not guarantee a hypoallergenic stay, so if you are highly allergic this might not be your place to stay.

How “rustic” is rustic?

These are cabins. They have a wood stove for heat and solar power. The amenities are basic but comfortable. The Artist Cabin has an indoor toilet and shower, while the Addie S has an “outhouse”. The outhouse is off the deck so easy to get to and has lights for the nighttime. The cabins stay warm and are very cozy even in the winter. While we don’t offer some of the comforts found in Ouray or Silverton you won’t be able to beat the morning view!

Are there mice?

We do our best to minimize mountain rodents, however, these are cabins and mice do live there and can find ways to get in. It is a good idea to keep food in containers and off the counters. Cleanliness discourages them from wanting to live inside.

At the Artist cabin we encourage you to keep the traps that are at the cabin set with “mouse attractant” while you are there.

WIFI?

There is no WiFi or internet

PHONE?

There is only limited cell service at both cabins using the cell booster at the cabin. Not always reliable depending on which carrier you use. (Verizon is the one that usually works) The Land Lines at the cabin have local service and can be used to call 911 in an emergency or call long distance using a calling card or collect.
